You don’t need to visit Center Parcs or the Blue Lagoon in Iceland to swim outdoors in heated bliss this February half term. Following on from the amazing success of our Christmas and New Year swims, we will be heating the pool to 29C, making sure the changing rooms are toasty and hot drinks are on offer in the tuckshop, so why not bring the whole family to enjoy some holiday fun ? (There will of course be lanes if you just want to swim.) Advance booking is necessary, and tickets are now available via Eventbrite for selected dates during...

Pool was the Hot Ticket this Christmas Season

This Christmas and New Year holidays, the newest experience for families over the was an outdoor dip at the Pool.  Over the last few years our Christmas and Boxing Day dips have been a big draw, attracting hundreds of brave swimmers even though the water was unheated and as cold as 6C.  But this Christmas for the first time we decided to heat the water to 29C and open for more days over the festive season.  Tickets for hour long sessions over Christmas went online in early November and had sold out within a few weeks, so we increased the...

Review of the Year 2018

2018 has been the most successful season to date for the Lido since it was taken over by by the Community Trust in 2009, with over 53,000 visitors between April and September and many more attending events and swimming during the extended season. This was mainly due to the fantastic weather, especially in June and July but the many new initiatives and improvements to the pool and café were also a factor. Pre Season: Before the pool opened on 21 April, volunteers were hard at work painting and cleaning. During the winter months we •...

‘Dog Day Afternoon’ at the Pool

On Sunday 30 September we got together with Portishead RNLI for a special event allowing dogs and their human families to enjoy a heated swim together whilst learning how to keep them and their owners safe in and around water. Two hundred dogs and their owners turned up to enjoy a splash in 29C comfort and there was much hilarity and splashing about as some nervous pooches clung to their owners or sat on their shoulders, whilst others dived in with gay abandon and had to be coaxed out at the end of their session with some special doggie ice...

Joyce Cooper 1949-2018

We are very sad to announce that Joyce passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday 11 April after a short illness.  Joyce was born in Salford and moved to Portishead in 1986.  She was closely involved with the pool since the fight to save it from closure in 2008.  She took part in the televised makeover and was a life member of Portishead Pool Community Trust, a regular volunteer and management team member as well as being the second longest serving Trustee.  She  was also a dear friend and colleague for many of us and we will miss her so...
