Pool now has a 99-year leaseThe Portishead Pool Community Trust has now signed a 99-year with North Somerset Council, replacing the temporay lease granted last year. This long lease enables the Trust to implement longer term work scheduling, and is also an essential requirement if the Trust is to apply for grant funding for specific capital projects, such as solar heating.
This lease has required a lot of hard work on the part of Trustees, North Somerset Council and legal advisors, in order to arrive at an arrangement which meets the needs of the pool, and help secure the pool's long term future. The Trust has also signed a commercial agreement with North Somerset Council, which means that the pool will be featured in council marketing and other tourism promotions.
Portishead Pool held up as example of community transfers in action! The Portishead Open Air Pool is being held up by the Government as a wonderful example of community transfer; however some of the detail on the struggle is overlooked or downplayed!
The Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) is now officially working with the Government's Asset Transfer Trust on these 'third sector' transfers. The pool is now closed, and will reopen 30th April 2010
Following a fantastic season in which we had over 30,000 visits (even though the summer was not that good), Portishead Open Air Pool is now closed.
From the 27th September, we will be winterising the pool ready to re-open next season, but we won’t be sitting around all winter doing nothing; this winter we have a packed schedule of works to improve the pool, improve disabled facilities, improve family facilities and if possible to add new features. To do this we will again need the help and support of the community; during the closed season there will be several volunteer days organised which will be advertised via the website, and everyone on our mailing list will also receive an email announcing each volunteer day.
Ty Pennington and his team gave this pool a real boost back in May this year, but 7 days was not long enough to do everything. With your support we will continue to renovate and refurbish the pool to ensure its future for years to come.
We can only continue to provide this facility with the support of the public, so please during the closed season support us by dropping your loose change into one of our many donation boxes, helping out on volunteer days if you can, and using the Lockhouse Lounge.
Lockhouse Lounge
The Lockhouse Lounge (http://lounge.thelockhouseportishead.co.uk/index.php) is an independent all year round restaurant and bar situated at the pool, with amazing south facing panoramic coastal views, and poolside and outside terraces.
The Lockhouse Lounge is open for mornings with papers and a comprehensive food offering including the breakfast, drinks and pastries served throughout the day. Installed WiFi makes the Lockhouse Lounge the perfect place to ‘work from home’.
New seasonal menu from 28th September.
