Café Lido

Café Lido is a community café run entirely by volunteers.

Following the departure of the last tenants of the café premises, a group of volunteers from the Open Air Pool came together and discussed the possibility of a community café run “in house” by volunteers for the benefit and upkeep of the pool. We submitted a business plan to the Board of Trustees of the pool and in early 2016 we were delighted to hear that we had been given the go ahead. Café Lido was born.

We opened on 23 April 2016, both to swimming pool users and to visitors to the sea front and lake grounds.

Our ethos is to be an inclusive café and to offer a variety of drinks and snacks, ice creams, cakes, fresh fruit, light meals and tuck shop sweets, as well as pool related merchandise.  Our coffee and teas are all Fairtrade and much of our stock is sourced from local suppliers. We aim to provide quality products at affordable prices to suit a range of tastes.  If there is something you would like us to stock please mention it to one of our volunteers.

New for 2018!

The Café is currently open from Friday to Sunday, but we will be extending our opening hours from Easter.  Our regulars will know we now have a volunteer chef which means we can increase our range of cooked food including seasonal and chef’s specials – in February the specials theme is The Great British Potato (see our Menu).  We are also continuing our very popular afternoon tea, which can be booked in advance”

The Café and pool tuck shop are changing to take-away cups and containers which will be either be paper based recyclable or compostable.

The Café is largely run by volunteers, although we  also employ students and provide work experience, including supporting young people and adults with special needs to gain valuable life skills.   This spring we will also be welcoming catering students from Poland under the ERASMUS exchange scheme.  As always though, we need lots of volunteers to help keep this wonderful community facility running,  so if you can spare a few hours for an occasional or regular shift please contact Lynda on 07787 538380 or email

For current volunteers you can contact Lynda or book your shifts direct on
